God's Chosen Remnant

Seventh Day Adventist Movement

“And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”  Revelation 12:17

In the Old Testament (Tribe of Judah was chosen)

“And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days….The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh [Jesus] come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.” Genesis 49:1, 10

  • Jacob prophesied that the tribe of Judah would be God’s leading tribe and represented those who would maintain and keep God’s law until Jesus is born out of it

“Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the [promised] land into his hand.” Judges 1:1-2

“Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.” verse 8

  • God chose the tribe of Judah as His leaders to take the promised land. They also took the city of Jerusalem

“And it came to pass at that time when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way….And he said to Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces: for thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to thee: (But [Solomon] shall have one tribe for my servant David's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:)….Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand: but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes: But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes. And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.” 1 Kings 11:29-36

  • During this time, Jerusalem is God’s chosen city where His sanctuary was located and where His church (His people) congregated for the feasts days of the Lord so that He would always have a light (place) for all people of the world to come to worship Him and gain a true knowledge of Him

“So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day. And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.” 1 Kings 12:19-20

  • The tribe of Judah inhabited God’s chosen city of Jerusalem

“God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver.” Psalm 108:7-8

  • Tribe of Judah represented those who maintained and kept God’s law

“When Israel went out of Egypt (Pharoah), the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.” Psalm 114:1-2

  • Although God is God over all His people, His dwelling place [sanctuary] was always with the people who housed His law

“For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant.” Isaiah 5:7

  • Tribe of Judah represented God’s chosen people who kept His commandments and statutes (law) including the place (sanctuary) where anyone would be sent to worship Him and gain a more complete knowledge of Him

The Seventh Day Adventist Movement (Sabbath, Sanctuary, Spirit of Prophecy)

Seventh Day Sabbath

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Exodus 20:8

“For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Blessed is the man that does this, and the son of man that lay hold on it; that keeps the sabbath from polluting it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Exodus 20:11; Isaiah 56:2

“And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. And they that shall be of thee (Sabbath keepers) shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach (4th commandment), The restorer of paths to dwell in (First angel’s message).

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.”  Isaiah 58:11-14

Prophetic Interpretation

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed. Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” 2 Peter 1:19-20

“Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another. These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.” Daniel 7:2-8, 17

  • Lion with eagle’s wings.........................................Kingdom of Babylon (circa 608 BC)
  • Bear raised up on one side..................................Kingdom of Medes and Persians (538 BC)
  • Leopard with four heads and wings..................Kingdom of Greece (331 BC)
  • Dreadful beast with iron teeth and brass nails....Kingdom of Rome/Papacy (168 BC)

“Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days [years]; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.” Daniel 8:13-14

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven,….Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” Revelation 14:6-12

Christ’s High Priestly Ministry in His Heavenly Sanctuary

“Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” Hebrews 8:1-2

“Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?” “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.” Psalm 77:13; Leviticus 23:2

Testimony of Jesus Christ, aka The Spirit of Prophecy

“And the Lord came down in the pillar of the cloud,…and he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.” Numbers 12:5-6

“Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.” 2 Chronicles 20:20

“And the dragon was wroth with the woman (Apostolic church), and went to make war with the remnant of her seed [Seventh Day Adventist], which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ [Spirit of Prophecy].” Revelation 12:17; Revelation 19:10

“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? To [God’s] law and to [His] testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:19-20

Ellen G. White is the most translated American female author. Her prolific literary contribution fills nearly 50 books, 200 tracts and pamphlets, and more than 5000 periodical articles. During her lifetime of ministry she wrote many sermons, special testimonies, diary entries, letters and prepared many manuscripts comprising over 50,000 pages of material. The scope of this material includes health, education, family life, temperance (including sexual), evangelism, race relations, publishing, nutrition, medical work, stewardship, environmentalism, church-state relations, leadership, discipleship, and mission. Her writings focus on Jesus Christ and uphold His high moral and ethical values of Christian tradition. Her greatest work is the well-received five-volume Conflict of the Ages series, which details the great controversy between Christ and Satan from the origin of sin until its eradication from our universe.

She has helped establish schools, colleges, hospitals, and publishing plants in North America, Europe, and Australia. Her greatest contribution, however, is the spiritual transformation her writings have had on millions who have heeded God’s counsels and messages.

In her own words:

  • “The Lord desires you to study your Bibles. He has not given any additional light to take the place of his Word. This [lesser] light is to bring confused minds to his Word, which, if eaten and digested, is as the lifeblood of the soul.”
  • “In public labor do not make prominent, and quote that which Sister White has written, as authority to sustain your positions. To do this will not increase faith in the testimonies. Bring your evidences, clear and plain, from the Word of God. A “Thus saith the Lord” is the strongest testimony you can possibly present to the people. Let none be educated to look to Sister White, but to the mighty God, who gives instruction to Sister White.”
  • “The Holy Ghost is the author of the Scriptures and of the Spirit of Prophecy. These are not to be twisted and turned to mean what man may want them to mean, to carry out man’s ideas and sentiments, to carry forward man’s schemes at all hazards.”
  • “The Spirit was not given—nor can it ever be bestowed—to supersede the Bible; for the Scriptures explicitly state that the Word of God is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. If the Testimonies speak not according to the Word of God, reject them. Christ and Belial cannot be united.”
  • “When you make the Bible your food, your meat, and your drink, when you make its principles the elements of your character, you will know better how to receive counsel from God. I exalt the precious Word before you today. Do not repeat what I have said, saying, “Sister White said this,” and “Sister White said that.” Find out what the Lord God of Israel says, and then do what He commands.”

“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20
