A Kingdom of Stone, part I

“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.” Colossians 1:12-13.

After Christ’s crucifixion, the ascension, and the scenes of Revelation 4 and 5, “The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.” Psalm 110; Revelation 3:21. Then in the judgment scene of Daniel 7:9-14 “there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom.” Afterwards, in verses 22 & 27, “judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.”

In Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of earthly empires depicted “a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, which smote the image upon his feet (ten kings)....and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.” Verses 34-35. “These [ten kings] shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.” Revelation 17:12-14.

The apostles and prophets understood that this stone was a symbol of the Savior of the world. “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” Isaiah 28:16. “Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.” Matthew 21:42-43.
